Your tasks

As a Senior Platform Engineer (Kubernetes), you will be crucial in designing, implementing, and maintaining our platform infrastructure, focusing primarily on Kubernetes orchestration and containerization. While Kubernetes will be a key area of focus, you will also work across various middleware and infrastructure technologies. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to enhance our platform’s reliability, scalability, and overall user experience, driving innovation and best practices in the platform engineering domain.

You will support and help spearhead the architectural design and implementation of our internal Kubernetes cluster (called IKS - i3D Kubernetes Service), which we are currently using internally but will open up to external customers in the future. Strong product thinking will be essential in this role to ensure that our solutions not only meet current needs but are also scalable and marketable.

Your Responsibilities

Design and Implement Platform Features
- Develop new platform features, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and efficient across various middleware components, including Kubernetes.
- Play a key role in the architectural design and implementation of our internal Kubernetes cluster (IKS).

Infrastructure Automation and Optimization
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and management, optimizing the performance and efficiency of systems such as databases, web servers, and message queues.

CI/CD Pipeline Development
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, supporting continuous integration and delivery across diverse development environments.

Platform Monitoring and Logging
- Implement and manage monitoring and logging solutions to ensure system health and performance, utilizing tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and others.

Collaborate on Platform Strategy
- Work with cross-functional teams to align platform engineering strategies with business objectives and product roadmaps.

Security and Compliance
- Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations, safeguarding the platform infrastructure.

Promote DevOps and GitOps Practices

- Advocate for and implement DevOps and GitOps methodologies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing
- Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge within the team, promoting best practices and continuous learning.

Your profile

  • HBO/bachelor's degree (or thinking level)
  • Proficiency in platform engineering with experience in Kubernetes administration, development, and beyond.
  • Strong development skills in programming languages such as Python or Go.
  • Experience with (Kubernetes) monitoring and logging tools (e.g. ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, Thanos, Loki). 
  • Experience with container-specific Linux OS (e.g., Talos Linux) and other CNCF projects. 
  • Minimum 3 years experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering roles. · Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, preferably using tools like Gitlab CI/CD. 
  • Knowledge of various infrastructure and middleware technologies, including databases, web servers, and message queues. 
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and compliance standards.
